TeenWorksTM
The TeenWorksTM Program began in 1999 as a collaborative effort between organized labor in the Lehigh Valley and United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley and is funded entirely by labor unions in Lehigh and Northampton Counties in Pennsylvania. The program allocates small grants of up to $1,000 to teens doing community service projects throughout the Lehigh Valley and each project must be designed, implemented and carried out by teenagers.
The benefits to teens who work on this program are:
-
Experience in leadership, board governance, planning, programmatic and fiscal decision making, proposal writing and teamwork
-
A sense of connection, accountability and responsibility
-
A capacity to care for others
-
A sense of pride and confidence in discovering unique talents
-
A sense of being needed and valued
-
The power to affect personal change and improve the lives of others.
